National LULC Mapping
National level LULC mapping on 1:250,000 scale using multi-temporal AWiFS data sets to provide on annual basis, net sown area for different cropping seasons and integrated LULC at the end of each year starting from 2004-5. So far about 11 cycles of assessment has been completed and first 10cycles of output are ported to Bhuvan. The output of AWiFS LULC project is being disseminated though web services - initially through Bhoosampada and currently through Bhuvan. During 2009-11 more than 58,000 from 120 countries have accessed the LULC data. Since 2011, the data is being provided through Bhuvan web services. This data is being extensively used by more than 80 organizations across India. Besides, the data is also being used in flood, agriculture, hydrology and NICES for their modelling work. To understand the temporal consistency of cropping, the 10 cycles’ data was used to derive spatial distribution of crop-occurrence as well as fallows. The coefficient of variation of kharif, rabi and net sown area was computed at 10km grid which provides information on spatial consistency in 10km grid cell.
