Workshop on ISRO’s Geo-portals for Developmental Planning and e-Governance
Capacity Building Activity under Space based Information Support for Decentralized Planning (SIS-DP) project aims to empower PRIs & stakeholders to make use of Space Based Information in Decentralized Planning and Governance. NRSC has already taken up many activities as part of the capacity building programme envisaged under the SIS-DP project. These capacity building activities range from one day workshop for Panchayati Raj Institutions, Stakeholders, Partner Institutes and Academia to a week long programme intended for interaction with locals and ground data collection.
A recent interaction of ISRO with NGOs, Govt. officials and academic institutions was held in Birla Auditorium, Jaipur on 12th April 2016. The event was first of its kind where a one-day training-cum-workshop was organised to spread awareness among the participants on the use of ISRO’s Geo-portals for developmental planning and e-governance. The event was inaugurated by Shri. Kali Charan Saraf, Hon'ble Minister of Science & Technology, Govt. of Rajasthan and was presided by Dr. V.K. Dadhwal, Director, NRSC. Shri Ravi Shankar Srivasatava, Principal Secretary, Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of Rajasthan; Mrs. Nivedita Mehru, Director, Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of Rajasthan and other ISRO officials were also present. The event was organised by ISRO in association with Birla Institute of Scientific Research (BISR), State Remote Sensing Application Centre (SRSAC) and Central Arid Zone Research Institute (CAZRI) and was attended by ~ 900 people.
The audience was briefed about the role of satellite technology and earth observation data in development and governance activities. The initiatives of NRSC, ISRO in the field of Natural Resource Management, Disaster Management Support, Climate & Environment Science, Geospatial Governance and many other domains were shared with the audience. The SIS-DP project and the role of digital database generated in the project to achieve integrated spatial decentralized planning was highlighted. The mobile applications for on-field asset data collection and Bhuvan Panchayat Portal for facilitating planning at grass-root level were demonstrated. In addition to the above, live demonstrations of various Bhuvan applications that facilitate visualization, mapping, data sharing, building up of user applications, mobile applications etc. were also carried out.
