Assam Floods, 2016

The third wave of floods were reported in Assam state due to incessant rains during first week of July, 2016. Golaghat, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Jorhat, Sonitpur & Sibsagar districts were reported to be affected during the third wave of flooding. Brahmaputra, Dikhow,Dhansiri (South) and Jia-Bharali rivers are flowing in Moderate flood situation with steady trend.

NRSC analyzed satellite datasets of July 5, 2016 and July 7, 2016 and the flood inundation information was disseminated to the concerned Nodal Ministries, Central and Assam State Govt. departments. The following satellite images show pre & post flood situation in part of districts.

The flood situation in Assam State continued to remain grim during fourth week of July 2016 affecting about 18 districts. Golaghat, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Jorhat, Nowgong, Marigaon, Sonitpur & Sibsagar districts are reported to be severely flood affected. The swollen river Brahmaputra at Tezpur gauge site in Sonitpur district is in High Flood Situation and river Brahmaputra at Neamatighat in Jorhat district and Dhansiri river at Numaligarh in Golaghat district are in Moderate flood situation.

NRSC analyzed Radarsat-2 SAR data of 22nd, 24th & 26th July, 2016 and disseminated the flood inundation information to the concerned Nodal Ministries and Assam State Govt. departments. The following satellite images show the pre & post flood situation in Kaziranga National Park in Golaghat district, Assam.

The swollen river Brahmaputra at Dhubri gauge site in Dhubri district, Goalpara gauge site in Goalpara district, river Sankosh at Golokganj gauge site in Dhubri district are flowing in High Flood Situation. NRSC analyzed Radarsat-2 SAR data of 22nd, 24th 26th & 27th July, 2016 and disseminated the flood inundation information to the concerned Nodal Ministries and Assam State Govt. departments.
