National Urban Information System (NUIS)
National Urban Information System (NUIS) is a National Mission initiated by Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) in 2006 for Generation of multiscale (10,000, 2000, 1000) Hierarchial Urban Geospatial Database on Thematic content using Satellite, Aerial and GPR techniques. In Phase-I, 152 towns representing all States/UTs in the country have been selected. The project has been executed by Town & Country Planning Organization (TCPO), Survey of India (SOI) and National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC/ISRO). The Thematic Database at 1:10,000 scale has been prepared using Cartosat-1 (PAN) 2.5m and IRS P6 LISS IV MX 5.8m satellite data. It has been carried out by NRSC in association with 25 Partner Institutions (PIs) such as State Remote Sensing Application Centres, and other premier institutes like CEPT, BIT.Generation of multiscale (10K, 2K, 1K) hierarchical urban geospatial database on thematic data for various levels of Urban Planning, Infrastructure Development and u-Governance using Satellite, Aerial and GPR techniques. Total 152 towns covering geographical area 55,755 sqkm. Thematic data which would enable State Nodal Agency (SNA) and Urban Local Bodies (ULB) for Master Plan/Development Plan Preparation, Transportation Plan, Urban Site suitability analysis and Urban Environmental Planning.
Objectives are Providing high resolution satellite data of Cartosat-1 PAN stereo (2.5 m resolution) and LISS IV MX (5.8 m resolution), Generation of thematic geospatial database on 1:10,000 scale with twelve primary layers of base map, urban land use, geology/ geomorphology, soils (type, texture & depth) and four incorporated layers of administrative, forest, city/town boundaries and settlement village locations/names from census 2001 & 2011. The NUDBI data referred for non-spatial data & attributes. and Providing aerial photography on 1:10,000 scale for generation of geospatial database at 1:2,000 scale for city/town core areas.
Thematic mapping and GIS database created in association with 25 Partner Institutions such as State Remote Sensing Application Centres, Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology and Birla Institute of Technology (Mesra, Ranchi) State Town Planning Departments, Corporation/Municipalities and Local Bodies are also involved National Workshop for “NUIS Stakeholders with Special Emphasis on Bhuvan” was held on 31st July 2012, followed by five Regional Workshops NUIS data of 139 towns has been uploaded on Bhuvan.
