Sikkim Landslide, 2016

A massive landslide occurred near Mantam village in Sikkim on 13th August, 2016. The debris from the landslide had blocked the flow of the Kanka river, which is one of the main tributaries of Teesta River. The water impoundment has resulted in the formation of artificial lake, north of the Mantam village. NRSC/ISRO has acquired all possible satellite data to extract information related to river impoundment and the extent of landslide and blockade material. The information was disseminated to the Central and State Government authorities. The following satellite images show the pre and post landslide event and water impoundment.
