Cloud and Shadow Mask Utility: Clouds in remote sensing images are a source of information in different ways. Clouds play a critical role in the climate system and have importance in the energy balance of the atmosphere. Cloud cover can also provide information related to weather conditions and predictions. In Optical remote sensing the data acquired is affected by the presence of cloud. For studying land resources, the clouds block the features beneath it. In such cases, information on cloud pixels is a necessity for feature extraction. Delineation of clouds and cloud shadows is an important pre-processing step. Any reliable cloud delineation algorithm makes use of thermal band in addition to visible bands. In the absence of thermal band for Resoursesat-2 AWiFS images, an algorithm based on unsupervised classification exploiting spectral attributes is developed for automatic cloud and cloud shadow detection. SWIR Band synthesis utility for IRS Resourcesat-2 LISS-4 Mx Data: SWIR band finds its uses in many applications (snow and cloud detection etc.), Resourcesat Series satellites carry LISS-4 sensor which provides data at a spatial resolution of 5.8m in 4, 3, 2 bands. The SWIR band of in LISS-4 is synthesized using the spatial and spectral knowledge from LISS-3. This module generates synthesized SWIR band at a spatial resolution of LISS-4, by taking the inputs as LISS-3 (Layer stacked as B234), LISS-4 (Layer stacked as B2345) images along with their Meta files. The module accepts inputs in Geo-Tiff format and provides output in Geo-Tiff format. The S/W module has been developed using the coefficients derived from spectral transformation method to establish a relationship between B234 and B345 of LISS-3 image and applying these coefficients on B234 of LISS-4 Image to derive synthesized SWIR band. Resourcesat-2 HDF to GeoTiff conversion Utility: HDF stands for Hierarchical Data Format. HDF5 is a library and multi object file format for storing scientific data. HDF5 is a completely new Hierarchical Data Format, consisting of a data format specification and a supporting library implementation. It is freely available and designed to address some of the limitations of the older HDF format and also to address current and anticipated requirements of modern systems and applications. Two versions of HDF are currently in widespread use: HDF4 and HDF5. HDF5 is adopted as one of the formats for product dissemination from ISRO's earth observation satellite RESOURCESAT-2.The HDF to GeoTiff Conversion utility developed to allow a user to convert HDF5 Level 2 RAD/Geo data products for RESOURCESAT-2 AWiFS, LISS3, LISS4 (Mono, Mx modes) sensors into GeoTiff format to facilitate users to use these data in other applications which does not support HDF. Image Viewer Utility: Remote sensing satellites view the earth in different spectral bands, viz. near infrared (NIR), red, green, and blue bands and provides images at various spatial, radiometric and temporal resolutions. For visualizing these images an image viewer with capability of minimum radiometric enhancements is required. The Image viewer S/W module has been developed using the Open source Map windows software using Visual C# on windows platform to display the images, shape files and ASCII and Binary GRID files. Additionally it supports distance and area measurement on image. This software utility supports several file formats and various spatial and radiometric resolutions of Remote sensing Image data. IRS Data product visualization software: The Standard products supplied by NRSC have path row or orbit number based referencing scheme and it is not implicitly possible for the user to visualize as to where in India the data is covered. The problem becomes more severe for national level projects where the data for the entire Indian region needs to be handled. The division of data here is usually on a state boundary based and hence it is required to quickly visualize the exact area and state where the data is covered. It is required many a time during a project to check the status of the already delivered products and to know as to data pertaining to which area is still pending to be delivered by NRSC. It has been perceived that if a sub-sampled image can be generated quickly along with the geo-information it can be easy to display all the sub-sampled images on the boundary to quickly identify the gaps in the received data. This utility is developed for quick plotting and preview of the IRS data received from NRSC data Centre and helps users in understanding the correctness of the data ordered by them. Image Mosaicing utility:Image mosaicing is an important step in generation of large area radiometrically balanced images for mapping applications as well as in visualisation of large areas in a single view. Mosaicking is the process of joining overlapped georeferenced images together to form a larger image. Mosaic of multiple images involves two major steps color balancing and stitching. Many color matching techniques are available, but no single color matching technique is suitable for a given set of images. In this tool, Mosaic Normalization is achieved using statistical based automated tool to color match 'N' number of images and to get seamless mosaic with 'cut line feathering technique' in overlap areas. Semi- Automatic Registration utility for Resourcesat Imagery : Semi-Automatic registration tool is developed to rectify the Resourcesat images using polynomial transformation. This utility is designed using the object-oriented approach with an objective of high performance and with user-friendly functionalities for generating the registered images with respect to reference images. It has capability of using multiple processors for efficient image processing. This module is developed on JAVA and generates automatic tie points and also provides display viewer for delete, modify and adding the control points. This module provides basic image viewing options like panning, zooming, scrolling. The module supports various re-sampling techniques viz., Nearest Neighborhood, bilinear and cubic convolution. Utility for Mapping of SOI Map series to Open series Maps: The main purpose of the utility is to assist the users in relating Open Series Maps (OSM) to old Toposheets or vice versa. These Toposheets were printed by survey of India on 1:250,000; 1:50,000 and 1:25,000 scales. Old Topographic maps are based on Everest Datum and Polyconic Projection. NCC Generation Utility for IRS Data Remote sensing satellites view the earth in different spectral bands, viz. near infrared (NIR), red, green, and blue bands. In the absence of a blue channel from IRS-1C/1D onwards, interpreter creates color images using near infrared, red, and green bands in what is known as a false color composite(FCC). FCC does not look like natural representation of earth system as we view the earth ith the naked eye. e.g. Green vegetated areas appear Red in FCC whereas on real world we see it as green. For a trained interpreter, this does not pose any problem. However, for the non-remote sensing professional, this becomes a handicap. To overcome this, there is a requirement to generate natural color composites (NCC) from the given false color composite. This needs the simulation of blue band and create NCC by combining it with green and red bands. The NCC S/W module has been developed using the coefficients derived using spectral transformation method to establish a relationship between false color and true color image pairs provided by a sensor with all the four bands. These coefficients seem to work on a large number of images of different seasons, provided similar spectral bands and terrain are used. With the demand from the users for the Natural Color Conversion software, the software utility is developed at NRSC for users to create NCC at their end by using different sensors data sets from IRS-Resourcesat-1 and Resourcesat-2 Multispectral data.
