Updated Flood Hazard Atlas for Assam State
Shri Pallab Lochan Das, Hon’ble Minister of State for Revenue & Disaster Management, Government of Assam released the updated ‘Flood Hazard Atlas for Assam State’, on 6-Sep-2016 at Guwahati. Ms T Y Das, Additional Chief Secretary, Shri Dipak Kumar Sarma, CEO, Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) and Ms Nandita Hazarika, Joint Secretary & SPO DRR programme, Govt of Assam are also present in this function. This atlas is prepared jointly by NRSC and ASDMA.
This atlas was prepared using about 215 satellite datasets acquired during floods of different magnitudes, spanning last 18 years (1998-2015). The atlas provides information on frequently flooded villages in the State of Assam and also provides the flood hazard severity in different districts based on flood hazard category, flood hazard area and intra-annual flood variations. The hazard layer can also be viewed in bhuvan geoportal.
Hon’ble Minister appreciated the efforts of NRSC in bringing out the updated atlas for the state of Assam. Assam is the first state in the country to release satellite based flood hazard atlas in 2011 and also the first state to update the atlas in 2016.
